The SF6 Gas is commonly used in Electrical Equipment worldwide, It is known for its Isolation performance & breaking performance. And it is a non-toxic gas.

The standard : 

• The use of SF6 for Electrical Equipment is confirmed & specified in IEC 60376 “Specification of technical grade Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and complementary gases to be used in its mixtures for use in electrical equipment”. This standard is prepared by IEC Technical Committee 10.

• In IEC 62271-1 “High-voltage switchgear and control gear – Part 1: Common specifications for alternating current switchgear and control gear” :
• The SF6 Gas is recognized as Non Oxidizing Gases with expected operation duration at least 20 years.

• For Safety purpose, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) also release an international standard for Handling Procedures for SF6, please see IEC 62271-4 “High-voltage switchgear and control gear – Part 4: Handling procedures for Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and its mixtures”

• Also in order to protect the environment, IEC also release a standard for the Re-Use of SF6 after recovery & reclaiming from Electrical Equipment (End of Life), IEC 60480 “Specifications for the re-use of Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and its mixtures in electrical equipment”
