We are excited to announce the release of Standard Engineering Application Library 1.17! While version 1.16 was a limited release provided only to a small group of users, SEAL 1.17 is now available to everyone and brings several important improvements to the platform. As always, we encourage you to read the full release notes for all details.
Installer relocation for easier updates:
SEAL is now installed under %LocalAppData% instead of %ProgramFiles%, eliminating the need for administrator rights and making updates and deployment smoother for all users.
Platform transition to WebView2:
SEAL now uses WebView2 as its embedded browser platform. This upgrade, while not visually apparent, delivers improved security, performance, and compatibility with modern web standards, ensuring long-term maintainability.
SEAL Design: Support for new Universal I/O Modules:
SEAL Design now supports the latest Universal Input/Output modules, while older modules are marked as discontinued. This ensures compatibility with current hardware and simplifies system design.
SEAL Script: Markdown support for weblinks:
Script developers can now add clickable hyperlinks in description fields using markdown syntax (URL). This makes documentation and navigation within scripts easier and more user-friendly.
SEAL Panel Design (Limited Release):
The new SEAL Panel Design utility, introduced in 1.16, remains available only to a limited group of users. This tool streamlines the configuration of electrical cabinet layouts and is designed for future integration with other SEAL utilities.
Prerequisites:
• WebView2 Runtime will be downloaded and installed automatically if not already present.
• .NET 8 Desktop Runtime must be installed manually if it is not already available on the machine.

Hello, new Seal user here. I have installed this and cannot open the client on my machine, the applications opens/suspends and then crashes according to task manager. Any ideas how to work around this or things to try?

UPDATE: Fixed
I was able to load 1.15.3 from another user, uninstalled, and re-installed 1.17 and it worked no problem. This may be an issue for new seal users or possibly the new files in appdata. Thank you all!

Thanks @tanneringram18 - the hint that it works if you install a previous version first let me pinpoint the issue. It's fortunately a quick fix. We'll get an updated version out ASAP. Thanks again.

As mentioned earlier, we identified an issue where SEAL 1.17.0 could fail to start when installed as the first SEAL version on a machine. This has now been resolved in the 1.17.1 patch.
The installer link in the original release post has been updated to point to the fixed version, so if you're installing SEAL for the first time, please make sure to use the latest installer.
We’re sorry if this issue caused any trouble, and we appreciate your patience!
