Difference in Device Count

Hi,

I'm just wondering why the device count varies in Data Center Expert?
Referring to the image below, these are the reported counts:

137 Devices - Shown in the status bar, and if we click 'All Devices' in the Device Groups Pane
140 Devices - If we sum up manually, all the devices in each of the individual folder,  in the Device Groups Pane
147 Devices - If we sum up all the device count in device type inventory report

Hope someone can help me clarify this issue.

Thanks.

Hi @ϟϟ ,

I'm unable to replicate that here in NAM. I have 90 devices in "All Devices" and each main sub group count adds up. I verified and counted every device in every level 1 folder.

I also went to your server and manually counted each group's devices. They did add up to 140. Unsure why the count when looking at All Devices is reading 137. Is it possible that the same device is in multiple groups? That is possible to do, you can hold the control key and drag and drop. I don't usually mention it as I have seen strange behavior. Have you checked with Shaun or any of the guys that might administer that server to see if they've seen any weird issues?

Is this also a customer issue or is it just something on the EMEA server?

Steve

Hi @ϟϟ

If you look closely at the Device Type Inventory Report, you will see that the 2nd row down is listed as camera pods. A bit closer to the bottom, you have a row for sensor pods. There are 5 of each. That would seem to account for the 10 count difference. I believe the count on the count on device view with everything highlighted notes all devices that take up a node license or a virtual device. It does not account for a pod that is part of a NetBotz appliance.

Sorry, I'm not sure how you got the 140.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi @APC_Steve,

I appreciate your prompt reply!

Hope the image gives better idea how I got it to 140 devices.

There are 9 folders, under All Devices.

Basically, I just click on each of the folder, and adds all the values shown in the red circle.

Sum of devices in each folderSum of devices in each folder

Thank you!

Hi @APC_Steve,

Thank you for going the extra mile 🙂

Since this is a test server and I didn't really checked, the possibility of same device exist in multiple groups is actually a good reason why this happens.

Worry not, this is not a customer issue or anything, it's just me trying to crosscheck the API for device count, in DCE.
FYI, the API returns 147, which is tally with the report.

Thank you again.

Have a great weekend!

Hi @ϟϟ

If this is the server on the Galway lab, we do indeed have devices that are members of multiple folders.  For example, the two devices with IP addresses in the folder named EU-something, also appear in the folder EMEA.

I haven't gone through every folder looking for these, so I can't give you a solid number - but hopefully a concrete example will show you what you're looking for, or at least why the discrepancy exists.
