Hi,
For years now, we are using the complete backup option of DCE to store our daily backups on a samba share. It works as expected but since the last update perform early novembre (to 8.0 release), the size of the backup file as been mutiply by 4. It was previously generating a 6 Gb file and now each file is 22 Gb.
I don't remenber if there was a compression option in the 7.x release of DCE, but it looks like the backup file created with the last release is already compressed as a tar.gz command won't have any effect on the size of the file.
Have you already encountered the same issue with the 8.0 release ?
(We are using the 8.0.0.154)

Hello,
seems like all releases of version 8 have some issues with backup part...beside of removing option to compress backup also minor release 148 have an issue with backup path, release 151 make full backups instead of incremental...so I guess also 154 is not strange regarding backup issues
I hope they will release a new version soon in order to fix all this backup issues.....
Like usual, when something is working fine DO NOT TRY to improve it because you will cause another ten issues 🙂
Multiple versions of DCE 8.0
The current version of Data Center Expert is 8.0.0.154.
Some customers received DCE 8.0.0.151, DCE 8.0.0.149, or DCE 8.0.0.148.
DCE 8.0.0.154 addresses the following issue in the DCE 8.0.0.151 release:
o Synchronized backups created a Full backup and a new Full backup file.
Synchronized backups now append new data to an existing Synchronized backup as expected.
DCE 8.0.0.151 addresses the following issue in the DCE 8.0.0.149 release:
o Certificates signed by a trusted certificate authority (CA) cannot be removed using the System > Server
Administration Settings > Server Access > Web Server display.
Customers who updated their DCE server to 8.0.0.149 can download the 8.0.0.151 desktop client to
mitigate this issue.
DCE 8.0.0.149 addresses the following issue in the DCE 8.0.0.148 release:
o When the Subdirectory field in the System > Server Administration Settings > Server Backup/Restore
> Backup Share Settings display contains a backslash ( \ ), the backup fails and DCE incorrectly
indicates that the backup was successful.
Replace the backslashes in the Subdirectory field with forward slashes (/) to mitigate this issue

Hi,
After reading some documentation in the help center, i saw that the "compressed" option was available in the back up type of the backup/restore configuration menu. That's the option we used to choose for our backups (not the full as i mentionned above).
https://community.se.com/t5/DCE-server-administration/DCE-server-Backup-Restore/ta-p/446756
Now with the 8.0 release this specific option has been removed from the drop down list (full/synchronized/configuration).
