SmartConnect’s new Device sharing feature allows multiple users at Managed Services Providers (MSP) and large IT Teams to monitor and manage the same device(s) from separate user accounts. It promotes use of discrete user accounts with two-factor authentication. Transfer of device ownership is not supported through ‘shared devices’, so device owners must register their device first and then share with service providers and team members.
The registered device owner viewing “My devices” can choose to share device access with a co-owner from the Device Management page. An owner can share a device with up to 5 other users. The Event log can be configured to log all the user actions. Device sharing can be revoked by the owner or the other user at any time.
NOTE: This feature is available for devices on a Standard or Advanced plan.
To share your device:
1. Navigate to Device Management in the Web Portal. 2. Select the device(s) that you would like to share with another user. 3. An email with device identification(s) and confirmation code will be sent to another user. The user must have or create a user account on SmartConnect to complete the sharing process. NOTE: Devices can only be deleted from the system by their owner whereas the other user can only remove the device from their view.
To view devices shared with you:
You can add devices ‘Shared with me’ to an existing user account or create a new one when you receive the share invitation.
When you receive an email, or a link with device information and a confirmation code, click Accept.
To receive UPS and event notifications, you must add the device(s) to one of your UPS event notification policies. For more information, see Notifications.
