Difference between Aveva Plant SCADA HMI and Aveva Plant SCADA Full Server

Good day,

Please what is the difference between Aveva Plant SCADA HMI and Aveva Plant SCADA Full Server ?

Is it possible to have a standalone connection between M251 and Aveva Plant SCDADA HMI 600 points using Modbus TCP ? Is an OPC Server required ?

AVEVA Plant Scada HMI provides functionality for Plant Scada running on a single PC.  AVEVA Plant Scada Full Server can be used in more advanced architectures such as Client / Server and Redundant configurations across multiple machines.

The Scada functionality is essentially the same for both.

M251 supports Modbus TCP so you could locate your PLC variables to Modbus addresses and read/write to them from AVEVA Plant Scada which comes with a Modbus TCP driver as standard (both HMI and Full Server options).

Alternatively you could use an additional OPC Server to communicate with the M251 without the need to locate variables in the PLC.  I think that there is an OPC Server included with EcoStruxure Machine Expert (M251 programming Software)
