Rackmount APC 1500RT - No powering up

I'd really like to repair this if possible. Theres no obvious failure, it is getting power to the board, but unable to figure out what is wrong.

Is there a service manual available? Or a replacement Cougar Board (640-0770C_Rev03)

I know its old, but I detest waste......I already bought a replacement, but having two would be nice....

There are no publicly available schematics provided by APC / Schneider.

Having said this there are some schematics available on the internet on various forums you can use as a reference.

Since you haven’t provided much detail as to what is wrong. Here are a few questions to answer which will help narrow down the problem area.

Battery: Does the system have a fully operational and healthy battery?!? If not there must be one in place otherwise you’re wasting time! Use the replacement unit you have on hand and insert the battery and report back the following.

Does the system try to charge the battery?!? Does it even see the battery connected?!? Will the system (cold start) turn on with the battery only?!?

Self Test: If a healthy battery was present the next step is to confirm the system completes the Self Test (POST). If not determine why - which leads to the next question.

APC Power Chute: Have this software installed and connected to the system. It may detect the active fault / error code present. As such that will help narrow down the problem area to focus on.

Output: Is there any voltage present on the outputs?!? Did you hear any relays clicking at any time during the power up sequence?!?

Brain Dead: The brain dead reset procedure is intended to reset and clear the internal MCU of the system. Again, you’ll need a healthy battery to be present to complete this task as outlined here:

https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156611/

All of the above questions will help isolate the problem area. Generally speaking if the system was operating as expected once you turned on the unit.

It would immediately enable the output relays. It would then initiate a self test (POST) to confirm all critical components were present and operating within its defined state.

If you don’t hear any relays clicking 9 times out of ten it’s a relay weld fault. Simply replace all the relays in the system.

Given, you have an identical unit it’s easier to measure any expected voltages / resistance present. Other common failures are power transistors and capacitors.

Unless you can get the above parts for cheap. It’s simply easier to buy a used board / entire unit on eBay.

Let me know. . . .
