Hi All,
I have just recently purchased a second hand APC SmartUPS 3000XL (SU3000RMXLi3U) UPS. This UPS only has an RS232 serial port standard and a vacant expansion Comms card port. Very expensive cards so not wanting to go that way.
Very happy with it but having some problems getting my head around connecting it to my ASUS windows 10 laptop (no serial port) and my QNAP TS-453 Pro (again-no serial port) to allow both to shutdown prior to the UPS running out of battery power?
I also ultimately want to use the https://www.home-assistant.io/components/apcupsd/ Home Assistant component to monitor the UPS.
Any experts out there who can point me in the right direction?
Cheers for any help in advance!

For now what I will do is monitor the status of UPS supply and UPS Protected supply with two sonoff basics linked to Home Assistant.
I'll then use a HA automation to send a telegram notification on loss of UPS supply which will execute a batch file (windows VM) on the qnap to shut it down.
Start Up will be a manual thing at the moment but that's fine for now.
