Compressor drive communication fault
After a power surge from an electrical storm the unit give me a compressor drive communication fault alarm. I was Unable to clear the alarm with the controller and by cycling power. I have correct voltage going to unit and drive. Checked compressor fuses and they were good. Any ideas thank
Apologies for the lengthy delay but I have only just become aware of your issue. Please read the following information to help us zero in on the source of the problem.
If you have a “compressor drive communication fault” the problem may not be the VFD but instead it may be that the main board is not communicating externally to RS485 devices. Therefore, we should investigate board level components like main board and XAS card first.
Please perform and report on the following steps if possible, so that we can pinpoint the issue……
Are there any status lights visible on the VFD.
This will indicate the health of the drive.
What is the exact VFD alarm code.
This will help identify the exact issue the VFD is reporting.
Does the VFD have a display? If so, are there any error codes displayed?
Unfortunately, if this error code is not visible through the display software named MCT10 is required to view and download these logs.
Based upon the findings from the information above we will decide the next steps.
NOTE: Considering a power surge possibly led to this issue then my feeling is that we will need to replace potentially either comms cards, relays or even the entire control board.
