It would be very helpful if you called out what specific APC UPS model you’re speaking about. As this would help all of us provide more accurate information and feedback. 🙂
Regardless, what happens when you disconnect and remove the actual battery cartridge? The unit should continue to indicate a battery fault is present. ☝️
If so, wait a minute and then (insert and reconnect) the battery cartridge. The unit should see the battery and you can follow the LCD instructions to clear the active fault.
As a reminder the batteries are rated for only 3-5 years of service life. That is based on usage, temperature, and environmental factors. If the batteries are in this range the cartridge may need to be replaced.
The system will perform a self test every 7-14 days depending upon the model, your selection, and available features.
This will complete a small load test on the battery and if it’s good it will pass - if it’s bad the test will fail.
A better and more accurate test is to remove AC Power from the wall. If the unit turns off immediately the batteries are dead - replace.
If the system runs for a specific duration compare that runtime with the APC Runtime Chart. This chart will provide you a rough idea of how many minutes / hours the system will run for based on a new cell with a defined load.
If the expected runtime for a 150 watt load is 60 minutes but you only see 5-10 minutes the battery is end of life - replace.
If however you see 30-45 minutes it’s time to set aside finances and schedule to replace the batteries in the future. 👍
Report back the model UPS and the results of removing and reconnecting the battery cartridge. Along with clearing the active fault message via the LCD Menu. 👍
