I'm trying to figure out the best way to update the firmware on the AP9631 NMC2 network card on my APC UPS SMT1500C. The instructions are somewhat confusing.
My application module is currently at 6.5.0; my APC OS (AOS) module is currently at 6.5.0; and the APC boot monitor is at 1.0.8.
A couple of questions:
All of these are out of date, and I have the latest files downloaded, but I'm not sure the best way to go forward. There are several different ways to try to upload the software (serial connection, FTP, SCP, USB flash drive). I don't have a console cable, so I'd prefer to do it via USB or FTP. I'm thinking USB would be the best way?
Do I need to upgrade to 6.9.6 before upgrading to 7.0.4?

You don’t need any of that stuff you can just use the wizard to update the NMC via your network on a computer. 👍
Simply enter the IP Address, User Name / Password. The whole process will take under five minutes. As it relates to updating in stages you normally do so in major branches such as 5.XX -> 6.XX -> 7.XX etc.
It doesn’t hurt to stage the update if you’re unsure as there is less risk. Before you update the NMC ensure you have the FAQ as it relates to how to recover the unit if the firmware bricks the unit! ☝️
Lastly, insure you have the correct firmware for your specific hardware. If you’re unsure reach out to APC Technical Support to have then relay the exact firmware and documentation for you.
Doing so will save you headaches and what little hair is on your head. 🤣 Let us know how things turn out.
