Test the network card of a PC

Issue The network card is not working on the PC.  Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Access Expert, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, EcoStruxure Security Expert, Satchwell BAS & Sigma, Satchwell MicroNet, TAC IA Series TAC I/NET, TAC Vista Environment PC Network Interface Card Cause Require a method to test the network card. Resolution Assuming you have the correct protocols loaded:- Open up a command prompt and type ‘ipconfig’(1) then press enter to get a list of the available network cards. Find the specific network card by name (2) Record the IP Address (3) assigned to the card, e.g. 192.168.5.90 If the card is unplugged (4) connect a network cable and start back at step 1 If the network card does not appear in Device Manager check the drivers are correctly installed for the card and when installed correctly start back at step 1. If the network card still does not appear it could be disabled.  In Network Connections right click the adaptor and select Enable (5) and start back at step 1. After these steps if the network card still does not appear when running ipconfig it is most likely damaged. If/when an IP Address is successfully obtained open a Command Prompt and type ping followed by the IP Address of the card, for example ping 192.168.5.90 (1). A functioning card will respond with 4 successfully replies (2) and the associated statistics (3) As additional information a good first step would be to "ping 127.0.0.1". This will not test a network card but indicates that the TCP/IP protocol is installed and functioning on the host PC.

Can a EBO AS-P be used instead of MicroNet manager MN-MI

Issue Need to connect MicroNet system to EcoStruxure Building Operation Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Automation server Enterprise Server MicroNet interface Cause MN-Mi interfaces are obsolete, need to find another way to connect to EcoStruxure Building Operation system. Resolution A MicroNet system uses one of two communications protocols, Native Communications Protocol (NCP) and Attached Resource Computer Network (ARCnet). If the protocol being used is NCP, the MicroNet LAN can be connected directly to the AS-P/ES, A MicroNet interface can be added and configured. If the protocol adopted is ARCnet, this does require the MN-Mi, to convert from RS 232 to ARCnet, the MN-Mi would be connected to the AS/ES using an RS232-485 converter. If the MicroNet controllers are the older 100 series version, it may be possible to remove the auxiliary ARCnet cards, and reconfigure the MicroNet controllers and LAN to use NCP protocol. If the MicroNet controllers are the 50 series type the cannot be re-confirmed as the communications components are on the main board. PA-00246 provides more information on the possible connections.

Using telnet command to check for open ports

Issue Checking if a port is open Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Pelco, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment TCP/IP Communication Command Prompt Telnet Command Cause Suspect certain network ports are blocked and need to verify Resolution It is possible to check if a port is open in a network by issuing the Telnet command. Note:- Telnet operates using the TCP protocol. UDP connectivity cannot be tested using Telnet. If a port is open, a blank screen will be seen after issuing the command: telnet [domainname or ip] [port] where [domainname or ip] is the domain name or IP address of the server being checked [port] is the port number the server application is listening on For example: telnet 192.168.0.20 9001 (to a closed port would display a connect failed message)   telnet 192.168.0.20 9003 (to an open port would display a blank screen)   To exit the Telnet session, type Ctrl + ] and then type "quit".   For how to enable Telnet in Windows 7 please see Enable Telnet Client on a Windows 7 PC

Problem uninstalling software

Issue Removing software from a PC may leave behind unused / old registry entries and folders from the removed software, this in some cases may prevent software re-installation Product Line Andover Continuum,EcoStruxure Building Operation,Satchwell BAS & Sigma,Satchwell MicroNet,TAC INET,TAC Vista Environment All supported Operating Systems Cause This is due to the windows uninstall program not fully removing all elements for the software. Some of this is due to windows thinking the the software may have been removed unintentionally and therefor all the previous settings will still be saved in case of  re-installation. For example, when SQL is uninstalled the program folders that contain the database will remain intact. This may be an issue if, for example, the software is removed due to a problem with the original installation. This is when a complete removal off all components and registry entries may be needed. Resolution The best solution for removing all the unused registry entries is to use a program designed to remove obsolete registry entries and temporary files. Some examples of these are: CCleaner, which will allow you to clean up your PC by removing past installation components. Revo Uninstaller  which is useful for removing redundant folders / files / Registry entries.   It may be useful to use both of these programs to ensure a complete cleanup. Revo Uninstaller can be used to remove unused software and then CCleaner to get rid of all the Temp files etc.  Finally remove the relevant folders from within the windows explorer, Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Continuum Once done you should then be able to install a fresh clean copy of the application software. This solution is current in all versions of Windows including windows 10

Sigma Lookup table for a 10k Type 2 and type 3 Thermistor

Warning   Electrostatic Discharge Required: Always discharge static electricity from your person by touching metal prior to handling any hardware. Failure to do so may result in damage to devices. Issue Using sensors, other than the D?T range in a Sigma controller Product Line Satchwell Sigma Environment Sigma Release 4_05-SEB (Build 3_43_18) Sigma Release 4_05-SP2 (Build 3_42_48) Sigma Release 4_06 (Build 3_44_14) Sigma Release 4_06 SP1 (Build 3_44_16) Sigma Release 4_07 (Build 3_45_48) Sigma Release 4_07-SP1 (Build 3_45_51) Sigma Release 4_07-SP2 (Build 3_45_58) Sigma Release 4_08 (Build 3_46_57) Cause Using 10k Type 2 and type 3 Thermistor causes hardware alarm Resolution The lookup value for a Sigma resistance input is calculated as a percentage of a 2 volt signal (that's what is measured at the A/D convertor). If using a sensor other than a standard D?T range sensor, a calculation needs to made, to obtain the value to be entered in the input column (a % of 2 volts) of the look up table.   The calculation is as follows: - ( 10^6 * R1 )      /4000 ( 14700 + R1 ) Where R1 = resistance of the input 14700 =resistor on AI card The circuit shown below is a typical example of an AI channel for a resistance input.     It is suggested to put a 10K resistor in parallel therefore, the resulting circuit resistance can never be higher than 10K.   Attached is information for both the 10K type 2 and 10K type 3 sensors. Column C is the raw sensor resistance. Column D is the controller input resistance with a 10K shunt resistor connected. Column E and F example of the look up table.

Satchwell MicroNet 100 series LON controllers communicating with Automation server (AS-P)

Warning Potential for Data Loss: The steps detailed in the resolution of this article may result in a loss of critical data if not performed properly. Before beginning these steps, make sure all important data is backed up in the event of data loss. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with any complex steps detailed in this article, please contact Product Support for assistance. Issue Bringing a MicroNet LON controller/network into EcoStruxure Building Operation Product Line Satchwell MicroNet Environment Satchwell MicroNet MNN-30-100 Satchwell MicroNet MNN-44-100 Satchwell MicroNet MNN-50-100 Satchwell MicroNet MNN-62-100 Satchwell MicroNet MNL-C Cause Satchwell MicroNet 100 series LON networks are not supported in EcoStruxure Building Operation as a MicroNet LON network Resolution From the introduction of the MicroNet 50 series range in 2008, the MicroNet 100 series controllers with LON cards has no longer been supported and the MicroNet LON network is not supported in EcoStruxure Building Operation. Workaround: The MicroNet 100 series LON controllers can be bound to a standard LON network, using a third party network management tool such as LonMaker®  for Windows®  from Echelon. The complete MicroNet LON network could then be brought into an AS-P as a standard LON network. If this is not possible, the supported option to bring the MicroNet 100 series controllers into an AS-P or Enterprise server (ES) would be to remove the LON cards, from the MicroNet 100 series controllers and convert them to use an NCP network. The top two pairs of pins of the auxiliary card plug, would need the jumpers restored. The LON network cabling may need to be changed for a RS 484 compatible type, such as Belden 8762 or equivalent. The controller’s program would need to be re-configured for NCP using VisiSat. Then the MicroNet controller network can be imported into the AS-P, under a MicroNet NCP interface. If the LON network contains MicroNet LON touchscreens, these cannot be converted to NCP and would need to be removed from the NCP network.   The MicroNet 100 series data sheets are available here https://community.se.com/t5/Building-Automation-Knowledge/MicroNet-100-series-controller-MLi-s-and-Data-sheets/ta-p/6784   VisiSat 2.1 Build 196 – Software is available here https://ecoxpert.se.com/search?documentUUID=c93346a7-9d82-48e7-9b54-a866ac75bb71&title=VisiSat%202.1%20Build%20196%20-%20Software   VisiSat Release 2.1.196 Service Pack 1 https://ecoxpert.se.com/search?documentUUID=fd2e9849-1ffe-4c10-b3a6-5f27bac91870&title=VisiSat%20Release%202.1.196%20Service%20Pack%201%20(2.1.200)%20-%20Software   VisiSat Release 2.1.196 Service Pack 2 https://ecoxpert.se.com/search?documentUUID=839c09d2-400d-4434-8b1e-97f339545034&title=VisiSat%20Release%202.1.196%20Service%20Pack%202%20(2.1.201)%20-%20Software

What is Domain Name Service (DNS)?

Issue What is Domain Name Service (DNS)? Product Line Andover Continuum,EcoStruxure Access Expert,EcoStruxure Building Expert,EcoStruxure Building Operation,EcoStruxure Security Expert,Satchwell BAS & Sigma,Satchwell MicroNet,TAC IA Series,TAC INET,TAC Vista Environment TCP/IP Networks Cause DNS is a distributed hierarchical system for resolving host names into IP address. Under DNS, there is no central database with all of the Internet host information. The information is distributed among thousands of name servers organized into a hierarchy similar to the UNIX file system. DNS has a root domain at the top of the domain hierarchy that is served by a group of name servers called the root servers. Source: TCP/IP Network Administration by Craig Hunt, O’Reilly & Associates, Inc. Resolution Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4. The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.

Find Valid IP Address Range for a Specific Subnet Mask

Issue When using CIDR (Classless Inter Domain Routing) or Supernetting it is not always obvious what range of IP addresses can be used. Product Line EcoStruxure Building Operation Environment Device Administrator Building Commissioning Tool Cause When subnet masks with values other than 255 are used it is not always obvious what is the range of valid IP addresses allowed.  There is a need for an easy way to determine the range of valid IP addresses for the Subnet Mask being used. Resolution The IP address range can be calculated mathematically but the simplest method is to use a subnet calculator.  The website links below are both examples that will calculate the range of valid addresses for any specified subnet value.   http://www.subnet-calculator.com/cidr.php https://www.calculator.net/ip-subnet-calculator.html   Visit either of the websites for a CIDR / Supernet calculator, enter an IP addresses in the network along with a subnet mask and the calculator will provide the range of addresses that can be used within the subnet.   In addition to online calculators, a number of different subnet-calculator programs are available for Android, Apple and Windows Smartphones.
