BMS Redundancy TVDA

Issue How to be redundant with your intelligent Building Management System (iBMS) Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Satchwell Sigma, Security Expert, TAC INET Environment Existing intelligent Building Management System Open Mind High Availability Solutions (Deprecated by manufacturer) everRun MX ztC Edge Cause In engineering, redundancy is the duplication of critical components of a system with the intention of increasing the system's reliability. To be redundant with an intelligent Building Management System (iBMS) would take on two possibilities. Have an alarm on critical points alerting personnel who move into action quickly replacing control boards or devices in the event of failure. Have secondary backup controllers which upon failure, which are used to control devices resuming functionality. This is accomplished through programming the BAS with event sequences triggered from alarms or flags noting the failure. Redundancy capabilities and feasibility are site specific. Ascertaining failure in boards, points, or devices is crucial to creating secondary measures to keep seamless processes going and resume with functions.   Error detection and correction with maintenance is often the best practice for preventing failure. Worn components are the leading cause of failure, followed by a lack of planning and consideration in the protection of electrical components through power surges or failures.   For the database, backups including automated backups for MSDE, SQL Express, and Full SQL are available. For further information on database backups and options, take a look at Microsoft SQL Management Studio. For Host Computer backups, look at adding a secondary computer which replicates the database and can capture transactions and messages should a failure with the primary host computer take place. Also work with the local IT department to keep machines up to date, safe, and clean of 3rd party applications which may interfere with integrity. Schneider Electric’s building management systems are designed such that building control continues even when controller to server communication is disrupted. The BMS server is home to a database of alarm and historical data, as well as system parameters and programs. When a server or its network connection fails, the collection of data from building controllers halts until the problem is resolved. For data critical applications, this solution provides an environment capable of preventing the data loss that results from these types of failures.  Although we do support its use with EcoStruxure Building Operation, Security Expert, Continuum, I/NET, Vista, Sigma, and I/A Series as a disaster recovery solution, we do not provide direct support for EverRun. Sigma parallel port dongle or USB dongle upgrade to SBO/EBO software license exchange.

Issue Sigma parallel port dongle or USB dongle upgrade to software license Product Line Satchwell Sigma Environment Sigma version 4.08 Cause It is difficult to purchase computers with parallel ports. With the use of virtual computer operating systems, USB ports may not be available either. ∴ A different type of Sigma licensing will be required. Resolution Please note: EBO 3.x has now entered into its limited support period with Sigma support coming to an end, this free of charge service, provided by PSS in good faith, will no longer be available from the 1st May 2024. Any remaining Sigma systems will need to continue to use their current licensing method or be upgraded to EBO.   Product Support can arrange for an upgrade from your existing parallel port or USB type Sigma dongle to a Building Operation software license entitlement for Sigma 4.0.8. Sites running Sigma software 4.07 or older where support for software licensing isn't available need to be upgraded to Sigma version 4.08.57 or later to use the software option. Sigma Software license type availability is documented on page 8 in the Sigma 4.08 release note.   For engineers using Sigma 4.08: The Building Operation Evaluation License, available from the Schneider Electric Download Center, will unlock the Sigma 4.08 for testing etc for the period of the Evaluation License (maximum 3 months or until the expiry of the downloaded license).   Unlock Sigma software using the Building Operation Evaluation License. To install the software licensing option for Evaluation License: - Stop the Sigma server service. Install Building Operation License Administrator. Add Evaluation License file to the Building Operation License Server. Start the Sigma server service. Sigma should now be licensed. For customer sites using Sigma 4.08: To reduce the Sigma system downtime, Install the Building Operation License Server version 1.6 or later. (it is recommended that the latest available version of the Building Operation License Server compatible with the computer's operating system is used). Dongle Upgrade Procedure: Download the Sigma Dongle Replacement - Required Data 2020 form. Complete the cells that are highlighted/filled in blue. Open a case with your local support team.. Supply the completed spreadsheet. The Product Support representative that is assisting you with your license upgrade, will contact you and provide the address and details where to send the site's Sigma dongle. Once the dongle has been received a software license will be ordered and then the software license entitlement for Sigma will be sent to you. If the site is a standalone Sigma site, Product Support will need to get approval from the regional category manager before escalating for the software license.   To install the software licensing option for Sigma 4.08: - Stop the Sigma server service. Install Building Operation License Administrator. Add the entitlement to the Building Operation License Server. Start the Sigma server service. Sigma should now be licensed.   Note: If your current Sigma dongle contains Remote Alarm Manager licensing, Remote Alarm Manager does not support the Building Operation license server option. The USB dongle can still be used or a TAC license server type license can be used instead of the dongle.

Side-by-side error when starting SigmaX, RegSigmaX or SigView

Issue The following errors are seen when trying to run SigmaX, RegSigmaX or SigView.  The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.  Application event log: Activation context generation failed for "C:\SigmaX\Bin\RegSigmaX.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis. Product Line Satchwell Sigma Environment SigmaX 7.0.6 on Windows 7 32-bit SigmaX 7.09 on Windows 10 64bit SigView Cause Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable has not been installed. It appears that SigmaX requires this version to run. Resolution Either the Microsoft C++ 2005 is not installed, or if it is, then the Service Pack 1 (SP1) is required to be installed. This can be checked under the Windows 'Apps and Features'. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). In some cases,  Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package Security Update (x86) is required to resolve the issue. The 32bit (x86) version should be installed if installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 does not fix the problem.

Test the network card of a PC

Issue The network card is not working on the PC.  Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Access Expert, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, EcoStruxure Security Expert, Satchwell BAS & Sigma, Satchwell MicroNet, TAC IA Series TAC I/NET, TAC Vista Environment PC Network Interface Card Cause Require a method to test the network card. Resolution Assuming you have the correct protocols loaded:- Open up a command prompt and type ‘ipconfig’(1) then press enter to get a list of the available network cards. Find the specific network card by name (2) Record the IP Address (3) assigned to the card, e.g. 192.168.5.90 If the card is unplugged (4) connect a network cable and start back at step 1 If the network card does not appear in Device Manager check the drivers are correctly installed for the card and when installed correctly start back at step 1. If the network card still does not appear it could be disabled.  In Network Connections right click the adaptor and select Enable (5) and start back at step 1. After these steps if the network card still does not appear when running ipconfig it is most likely damaged. If/when an IP Address is successfully obtained open a Command Prompt and type ping followed by the IP Address of the card, for example ping 192.168.5.90 (1). A functioning card will respond with 4 successfully replies (2) and the associated statistics (3) As additional information a good first step would be to "ping 127.0.0.1". This will not test a network card but indicates that the TCP/IP protocol is installed and functioning on the host PC.

SigmaX version 7.0.9 is now available and can be used on any Sigma version that supported SigmaX version 7.0.6. 2. This information can be downloaded as a PDF file: Sigma Build Numbers 2023 3. When SigmaX 6.0.2 is installed, the build information provided by Sigma (Help > About) can be wrong (later than the actual version). This arises because SigmaX installs a file with Build 3.42.47 in the c:\sigma\bin folder. This is only a problem prior to Sigma Release 4.05 SEB.

Using telnet command to check for open ports

Issue Checking if a port is open Product Line Andover Continuum, EcoStruxure Building Expert, EcoStruxure Building Operation, Field Devices, Pelco, Satchwell MicroNet, Satchwell Sigma, TAC IA Series, TAC INET, TAC Vista Environment TCP/IP Communication Command Prompt Telnet Command Cause Suspect certain network ports are blocked and need to verify Resolution It is possible to check if a port is open in a network by issuing the Telnet command. Note:- Telnet operates using the TCP protocol. UDP connectivity cannot be tested using Telnet. If a port is open, a blank screen will be seen after issuing the command: telnet [domainname or ip] [port] where [domainname or ip] is the domain name or IP address of the server being checked [port] is the port number the server application is listening on For example: telnet 192.168.0.20 9001 (to a closed port would display a connect failed message)   telnet 192.168.0.20 9003 (to an open port would display a blank screen)   To exit the Telnet session, type Ctrl + ] and then type "quit".   For how to enable Telnet in Windows 7 please see Enable Telnet Client on a Windows 7 PC

Problem uninstalling software

Issue Removing software from a PC may leave behind unused / old registry entries and folders from the removed software, this in some cases may prevent software re-installation Product Line Andover Continuum,EcoStruxure Building Operation,Satchwell BAS & Sigma,Satchwell MicroNet,TAC INET,TAC Vista Environment All supported Operating Systems Cause This is due to the windows uninstall program not fully removing all elements for the software. Some of this is due to windows thinking the the software may have been removed unintentionally and therefor all the previous settings will still be saved in case of  re-installation. For example, when SQL is uninstalled the program folders that contain the database will remain intact. This may be an issue if, for example, the software is removed due to a problem with the original installation. This is when a complete removal off all components and registry entries may be needed. Resolution The best solution for removing all the unused registry entries is to use a program designed to remove obsolete registry entries and temporary files. Some examples of these are: CCleaner, which will allow you to clean up your PC by removing past installation components. Revo Uninstaller  which is useful for removing redundant folders / files / Registry entries.   It may be useful to use both of these programs to ensure a complete cleanup. Revo Uninstaller can be used to remove unused software and then CCleaner to get rid of all the Temp files etc.  Finally remove the relevant folders from within the windows explorer, Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Continuum Once done you should then be able to install a fresh clean copy of the application software. This solution is current in all versions of Windows including windows 10

Sigma IC Lon Values going on and offline

Issue Troubleshooting Sigma IC LON Values going on and offline Product Line Satchwell Sigma Environment Sigma Release 4_05-SEB (Build 3_43_18) Sigma Release 4_05-SP2 (Build 3_42_48) Sigma Release 4_06 (Build 3_44_14) Sigma Release 4_06 SP1 (Build 3_44_16) Sigma Release 4_07 (Build 3_45_48) Sigma Release 4_07-SP1 (Build 3_45_51) Sigma Release 4_07-SP2 (Build 3_45_58) Sigma Release 4_08 (Build 3_46_57) IC LON Cause Lon Values going into and out of default Resolution Compare the IC-LON’s Receive heartbeat set in the “gateway.txt” file in the IC-LON controller, to the send heartbeat set in the controller. The recommendation is for the receive heartbeat be set to 2-5 times the send heartbeat of the field controller. Starting at 2 times, then increasing if the problem persists. If the controller doesn’t have a heartbeat and the LON value rarely changes, disable the receiver heartbeat in the IC-LON’s gateway.txt file by setting the heartbeat to 0. Example: 1     2     3        4      5   6  7 2,   2,  112,  1293,  0,  0, 0   The Sigma system is now out of its support period, consideration should be given to transitioning or upgrading to SpaceLogic - EcoStruxure Building Operation.
