battery too low to support the load and will shutdown

This was originally posted on APC forums on 12/17/2014

When the smart ups 3000, 5000 or 6000 gives the message "battery is too low to support the load and will shutdown", does putting it into bypass allow the devices connected to it to remain up? Or will it just shutdown and take the devices attached to it down as well?

I would log in and check the load percentage, available runtime it reports, determine the last battery replacement date, and the value of "low battery duration." All of that would be available within the management card. Last battery replacement date requires a user to set it so we'll have to see if you think it is valid.

Also, if you want to provide the event.txt, data.txt, and config.ini according to these instructions (http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131) and I can see most of that besides the available runtime it is reporting (which would be in the status screen).

Other than that, bypass would just make it so you have NO change of battery back up. Leaving it online with aging batteries would give you the chance of a few minutes. Once we check this all out and verify it is not a setting generating this message, you should plan for batteries ASAP as the fix.

Hello,

Take a look here that explains this a little bit -> http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/4202/sua1500-the-battery-powe...

Bypass operation will have no affect on this issue. It is basically trying to tell you that your available runtime is low so if the UPS has to go to battery power, it may not last long. This could be due to older failing batteries or a recent setting change made to Low Battery Duration within the Network Management Card.

So is there anything that can be done to keep the devices connected, powered up, until we get there to fix whatever is wrong with the battery backup? Some sites are over an hour away and the batteries don't hold and it shutsdown taking the devices with it.
