Windows Server 2008 Core support?

I have a Windows Server 2008 Core installation (no UI) that acts as a Hyper-V server. Has anyone managed to figure out a way to install PowerChute (or some other client) on a Windows Core installation and have it respond appropriatly to power events?

While I can't help you there, I can suggest another approach:

If you're running an OS that PowerChute Business Edition supports on any computer attached to the same UPS, you could have it run a batch file that shuts down the others. Since you're going to be running Hyper-V, perhaps it is possible to use one of the virtual servers. That way, you're not in a bind if PowerChute for Windows CORE isn't launched soon enough.

There seems to be a Windows version of NUT on the website you linked to. Windows CORE isn't listed on their platform list, but who knows.

Hey,

Windows 2008 server core is currently unsupported by PowerChute software. Please check APC website for the updates. You may have new finds after several weeks.

Well, yes, the fact that PowerChute itself was not yet supported on any Windows Server 2008 installation I knew from the website, though there was always the possability that I missed some "public beta" page somewhere that someone could point me towards.

I was more looking to see if anyone had found any third-party or open-source mechanism yet, since having a server with no response to a UPS event is a pretty bad thing. Something like a Windows Core compatible NUT client ( http://www.networkupstools.org/ ) or the commerical equivilent of such.

Tony

I am unware if there is any 3rd party application to be used for 2008 server core. What I can tell is PowerChute for 2008 server core will be launched soon. (I don't have ETA). Once it is released, it will be put to web for download.

Yes, and I pulled the source code for WinNUT. The way it's doing version check would allow Windows 2008 (since the major and minor version numbers are the same as Windows Vista). What I can't validate yes is wheter WinNUT's "service mode" is compatible with Server 2008, so I was hoping that perhaps someone had tried it.
