Trying to reset the parameter "Battery Constant" for an SU2200NET

Hi and I hope someone can provide me with some tips on how to proceed:

I am trying to reset the battery constant for my 1999 vintage SU2200NET. I contacted APC tech support via a "chat" instance and was provide the value of hex "AF" as the constant for this UPS.

Using the correct serial cable, I "hyperterm'd" into the unit as follows:

1. Shift-Y. UPS responded with "SM".
2. 0 (zero). UPS responded with "8D". This is the current value of the battery constant.
3. Attempted to change the value using the + (plus) and - (minus) keys.
note: Instead of incrementing or decrementing the value, each time I pressed the key I received the "NO".
4. Shift-R. UPS responded with "BYE".

Does anyone know what the response "NO" means and if there is any way to cause EEPROM/NVRAM to begin to accept the requested change to the battery constant?

I also have an AP9630 (which WAS NOT installed while talking to the UPS via the serial port) but I don't think there is any way to change the battery constant via the NMC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i think you're missing a step. here are the instructions i have. try this in place of your step 2. press 1 and then about 4 seconds later, press 1 again (should get "PROG"). THEN press 0 and record the value.

Right you are! I suspected it was a "cockpit" issue. I'll redo it and let you know.

Hello Angela,

I am hoping you can help with this one too. I have a very old SMART-UPS 1250 and just replaced the batteries in it. The run time of 23 minutes did not change after replacement and seems low to me. I am trying to reset the battery constant but it seems this model is even older and does not respond to the 1 1 command to enter prog mode.

I opened hyperterminal.

Sent Y

Received SM

Sent 0 (zero)

Received 4E

Pressed 1 1 (tried numerous times.)

Received nothing at all.

If the UPS predicts 23 minutes of runtime, then you can do a runtime calibration, either via PowerChute or a network management card.
