The battery is not installed properly (AP9630)

Hi,

I have a Model Number:AP9630, Serial Number: ZA1239008017; Application Module: sumx v5.1.7

I've configured alerts on it and since 4 weeks I receive this kind of alert :

Critical - UPS: The battery is not installed properly.

and then about 1-2 minutes later a receive this one :

Informational - UPS: The battery is now installed.

Sometimes turns itself off. It has already happened twice.

Does it help if I update firmware? Please give me a link for this.
I thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Vitaly - based on the fact you said the UPS has turned off once in a while, I tend to believe the battery in the UPS is really failing. Sometimes the condition of "replace battery" presents itself like this depending on how the battery has failed. My guess is that the battery voltage may be fluctuating and when it drops below a certain point, the UPS cannot detect the battery anymore. And the voltage must be fluctuating quickly back and forth to see the behavior you saw.

You can check the data log for battery voltage. So far we have only see your event log.

Either way, my gut feeling is that you should plan to purchase a replacement battery for your UPS as soon as you can. The serial number also indicates it was manufactured in early 2013 so assuming you haven't replaced the battery yet, it seems normal that it is about 4 years old now and needs a new one.

Hi,

You can update the firmware of the card but the issue may be communication within the UPS itself. Here is a link the the software firmware download site where you can download the latest firmware for the network card.

http://www.apc.com/de/de/tools/download/index.cfm?ISOCountryCode=de

You should select Firmware Upgrade - UPS Network Management Card from the drop down menu and then select SFSUMX646

What is the exact model number of the UPS? You will find that information on the bar code stick on the back or bottom of the UPS.
