SmartConnect capability?

Does SmartConnect have the ability to shutdown a VMware host? If so, where can I find information on requirements to get this set up? We are looking to get graceful shutdown capabilities set up at several of our customers and are trying to figure out what equipment to get. Many of them only have one host and only a couple VMs and no vCenter server. Getting a UPS with an NMC would be overkill for these customers, so we were hoping to be able to get the same functionality with a UPS with SmartConnect. Of course, if that's not possible, then that's that.

Hi Ben,

Sorry but the Smart Connect port is only for connecting to the APC cloud monitoring service, however depending on the version of VMWare you are running it is possible to shutdown the UPS with Powerchute Business Edition, (due to changes by VMWare this option is not compatible with some later versions).

It is also possible to connect the UPS to a machine running PCBE and then have PCBE execute a script to shutdown the hosts when the battery is low, this is not supported as such and an NMC would work better but it is up to you.
