Smart-UPS RT 10000 XL

This was originally posted on APC forums on 12/15/2015

I have two Smart-UPS RT 10000 XL's with transfer switches. I am not a power or UPS expert. The issue I have is that whenever there is a surge the units just shut down instead of using the batteries. So of course all my equipment shuts down and I have to come in a manually reboot the APC UPS's.

One of my UPS's says

Last Battery Transfer: Unacceptable utility voltage rate of change

Currently all the equipment is running on one unit and the mgt site says:

Input Voltage: 240.4 VAC
Output Voltage: 207.0 VAC

Runtime Remaining: 34 minutes
Last Battery Transfer: Detection of a line voltage notch or spike

I put a multimeter on each individual cell of batteries and they all check out. So Im thinking there is a configuration issue here. Attached is the config, data, and event files for each ups.

The only thing that has really changed is load at which it must support when commercial power fails has been significantly decreased.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Taylor,

I am seeing an inverter fault pop up in the event log. This might be the root cause of your problem. When an inverter fault shows up, the UPS itself should have the red X light up. I would contact your local support for further troubleshooting. I would have the log files ready to send over and be in front of the unit at a time that you can do some troubleshooting with the unit.
