SNMP OIDs for Symmetra 16K

This question was originally posted by Rich on APC forums on 1/11/2008

How can I use SNMP to determine when there is a power module failure with a Symmetra 16K?

The Diagnostics web page shows:

- UPS Status is On Line, Alarms Present, Power Module failure

- Power Modules: Modules 1-4 are "On & OK", Module 5 is "IIC Lost Comm"

Is there a SNMP OID that indicates these failures?

Many thanks!

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the speedy response, and the link to the MIB. This version does contain the variable upsAdvStateAbnormalConditions (1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.11.2.1.0) which is defined like this:

-----
upsAdvStateAbnormalConditions OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX DisplayString
ACCESS read-only
STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"An ASCII string containing the 32 flags representing the current active UPS faults. If the Network Card is unable to determine the values of the flags, thisvariable is set to 'UNKNOWN'. If this variable is notsupported by the connected UPS, this variable is set to 'NOT SUPPORTED'.
-----

which has flags for both the "Power Module Failure" and "IIC Inter-Module Communication Failure". I suspect this may do exactly what I want. Best regards,

PS I searched the APC site pretty carefully, but was unable to come up with a link to the current MIB. Is there some place that I should have been looking? Thanks again.

I had the same issue of not being alerted when a power module would go offline in my Symmetra RM 6000's. I finally called APC and they helped me setup a custom OID alert for power module status.

Using InfraStruXure 6.0.2
- Go to Device - SNMP Device Communication Settings - Supplemental OIDs
- Add a new Supplemental OID
- Sensor Type = Generic
- OID = .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.13.2.2.1.2.1 for Bay 1 Power Module (top left)
- OID = .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.13.2.2.1.2.2 for Bay 2 Power Module (second from the top left)
- OID = .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.13.2.2.1.2.3 for Bay 3 Power Module (third from the top left)
- OID = .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.13.2.2.1.2.4 for Bay 4 Power Module (bottom left)
- Now right click on any Symmertra UPS and select Create Thresholds - Other Numeric - Minimum Value - Select the newly created Sensors (Power Module Bay 1 - 4) and set the Minimum value to 4. This will alert you if a power module is not On/Ok. The OID will respond with a value of 2 if no power module is present and will respond with a value of 4 if a power module is On/Ok.

This has really helped me keep an eye on the power modules so I am alerted before I have an overload on the UPS.
