Runtime Calibration Refused

Hi,

yesterday I replaced the battery of my Smart-UPS750.

I thought this would be the right time for updated the firmware of the Network Managment Card 2.

So I have done it.

After that I would run the runtime calibration which was refused by NMC every time.

I found a post in the forum, that the firmware from the UPS has should be updated too. So I did it and I updated the UPS from 5 (ID17) to 7.1 (ID17).

Unfortunately the calibration does not work after all.

The following have I done also:

  • discharging and charging the battery
  • restoring to factory defaults
  • reboot of NMC and UPS.

But nothing solved the problem.

Has anyone any further suggestion how to solve the problem?

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Martin

Hi Bill,

this was the right hint. Thank you.

I tryed to start the calibration from front panel, which was refused too.

But here I got a helpfull error message. "Calibration need at at least 10% load".

So I put more consumer to the outlets, and now I could start the calibration from NMC.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best Regards,

Martin

Normally the only reason for the UPS to refuse the calibration command is a) the battery is not at 100% or b) it is doing something with the battery already (on battery, self-test, etc.).

I'd suggest running a self-test, and if that passes, try the calibration again once the battery returns to 100% from the self-test.

Hi Terry,

thank you for your answer.

I have done this before.

The self test has passed before and I have waited until the battery load was 100.0%.

Today I tried the calibration and it was refused too, after passed self test (yesterday). (As you can see on se5.png)

I think you'll need to wait for the APC folks to see this, then. Here in the US, Monday is a holiday. You can find your local support contact info here.

Hi,

Can you run the calibration test from the Smart-UPS LCD panel? To do this you click on the Esc key, use the up or down arrow to scroll to Test & Diags, click on the enter key, use the up or down arrow to scroll to Calibration Test.

Hello Binod

There is a FAQ document detailing the requirements for doing a runtime calibration on the SMT/SMX units.

You can find the FAQ here -> https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA314748/

In short, there are minimum requirements that need to be met, or the unit will refuse the calibration.

"UPS load greater than a minimum threshold, which is proportional to the number of External Battery Packs (XBP) connected. With no XBP connected, the minimum required load is 10% (SMX or SMT); with one XBP: 25%; with 2 XBPs: 40%; with 5 or more XBPs: 85%"

On another note, you are posting to a thread that was marked as solved a while back, which makes your post very easy to overlook.

Best regards

Tonny

Have same issue. Calibration refused with a note "state of charge not acceptable". UPS load is higher than 10% and battery is fully charged.
