PowerView RM / AP9215RM / Symmetra RM Display Constant Reset

This was originally posted on APC forums on 9/27/2013

Hello all,

I have a Symmetra RM that's been running fine with out any issue for quite some time.

All of a sudden the AP9215RM display seems to have decided to emit a semi-long BEEP all the lights come on and the screen reset, and shows PowerViewRM, basically like I pulled the cable and re-seated it.

There seems to be no alarms on the unit.

I've treid reseating the cable, no change

I've tried rebooting the mangement modules, no change

I've reset the entire UPS, no change.

My question is where do I go from here.. do I try a regular Cat5 ? possible bad cable ???? although why all of a sudden when it hasn't been touched for over a year.  Is it likely that I just need a new Display ? or is it my intellence module that's gone for the count.  Unfortunetly I don't have any other units to swap parts from so I'm kind of looking for most likely cause from all of you experienced people out there to see how to clear this little issue..

Thoughts/Suggestions ?

Dave Lewis

Thanks for the info.

Tried a new cat5.. no change
Tried with the new cat 5 on the back port, no change

I guess I'm up to a new display

Age is probably a big factor, it's not a new unit.. but since the rest of the unit is still functioning normally with no issue I think it's worth a few bucks to see if I can fix this...

I'll post an update once I get the display.

Tks,

You're welcome. Also, I think I heard of this once before with older powerviews and really cold temperatures. I cannot find the knowledge base but I remember thinking it was strange we had seen it.

Regardless, I do also think it is just the PowerView so we'll see.

Hello

I would definitely try a new Cat 5 cable to start. It is just a standard cable. Next, in the rear of the UPS on your Symmetra Communications Card (where the DB-9 serial port is), you'll also find the "Remote PowerView port" that you could try and use. Run a longer Cat5 cable from your PowerView in front to the rear port (instead of the port on the MIM) just to see if any change. If that doesn't work, I'd try a new PowerView display next as that is probably the next likely culprit. Then, possibly a Main Intelligence module.

These are also the cheapest->most expensive options luckily.

The other thing you could check is to see if there is anything interesting reported in the Network Management Card if you have that still installed.

Depending on the age of the electrical components, it could be something failed some place after so much time..
