PowerChute V9.1.0 does not recognize USB attached Smart-UPS

Ok ... I have an older PC that performs environmental supervision for a remote site.

It runs XP Professional SP3 with all security patches.

I just upgraded from an older version of PowerChute to the latest PowerChute V9.1.0, and aquired a newer SmartUPS 1500

PowerChute does not recognize the UPS

USB connection seems OK as when I plug the UPS in to the PC with the PC running,

the UPS is recognized as an HID-type device - named:  "American Power Conversion USB UPS"

This device gets removed from Device manager when I unplug the USB cable

I checked Microsoft update and it asserts no newer device driver is available for the device

When I launch the web interface for the PowerChute (Business Edition) Agent s/w via:  http://127.0.0.1:3052

the interface tells me the device is not connected.

When I go to Server Shutdown --> System Settings --> Device Communications Port

It only offers COM1 or COM3 - not a USB type connection....

What have I done wrong?

You need to uninstall the PowerChute Agent and reinstall it. I assume that the newer Smart-UPS you are using is either a SMT or SMX model and those models have a different communication protocol than older Smart-UPS did.  By uninstalling and reinstalling PowerChute will recognize the newer Smart-UPS and establish communications.

Thanks Bill ... The unit I am using is a few years old it is a Model DLA1500 ....

I don't know which communications protocol it uses, so I'll uninstall/reinstall and report back ....

Thanks!

Thanks Bill that fixed it!

I might suggest to the programming team they they create a "search for UPS" option within powerchute,

or prompt during upgrade-installs to ask if user would like to uninstall old version first

(either as part of install, or warn of circumstances where-in user might want to manually uninstall prior to installation of new version)
