PowerChute Business Edition does not detect USB SmartUPS

This is a new server running Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials.  The UPS is a SmartUPS-1500 and attached via USB.  In device manager it is displayed under Batteries as HID UPS Battery.  When I attempt to install the PowerChute Agent software it does not detect the UPS and asks which port I am using, DB9 or RJ45.  Neither obviously.

Please advise.  Thanks.

Paul,

The reason the software ask DB9 or RJ45 is because since the software cannot auto-detect the UPS it needs to know what the available serial connection is to determine which version of PBEAgent to install. If DB9 then the version of Agent installed should be 9.0.3. If RJ45 the version will be 9.1.1 (this is assuming you are running the latest version of PCBE installer).

If connected properly the software should auto-detect the UPS and install the proper version of the Agent. It seems that the system is detecting the UPS since it is loading HID UPS Battery. If your Smart-UPS is model SMT, SMX, SMC, or SRT download and run USBTerm.exe tester. The tester can be downloaded from this link

https://schneider-electric.box.com/s/h2i9n2f2ek27p0wkmyspjsay3gl729et

If the Smart-UPS is detected then USBTerm.exe will return the model and serial number of the UPS. If USBTerm.exe returns the proper information then you should follow the instruction in Kbase FA164514 to manually load the APC UPS driver and then install PowerChute.
