PCNS 4.2 Configuration for Multiple Host on diffrent site and Single Central vCenter Server

This was originally posted on APC forums on 4/19/2017

I am trying to understand the configuration for below setup, any help would be appreciated.

I have multiple sites, each sites has one physical server and APC SMART UPS with NMC connected and configured. The Server is installed with ESXi 5.5 OS and has max 3 VM, the VM are Windows 2012 Server and has VMware tools installed on it. This physical server is connected to UPS.

There is Virtual vCenter Server in Datacenter which is used to manage there host and VM.

How can i setup a single PCNS server in Datacenter and then connect this local sites servers and UPS and then initiate a gracefull shutdown a particular host and VM incase if the UPS is in critical state.

I have successfully tested the stand alone mode setup, but still figuring how can i setup a central server which can monitor these UPS on differnt sites and then perform shutdown of only that server of which the UPS is in critical state and not the vCenter server or any other server.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Arvind Singh

Hi,

Have you reviewed Application Note 180? Different geographical locations are discussed starting on page 11. Another option is to run PCNS in an advanced configuration. that is discussed in Application Note 180 starting on page 16.

Note: in either case PCNS should be installed on a physical Windows system not on a VM. Also, if configuring for different geographical locations vCenter Server Application should also be installed on a physical Windows system not a VM.
