Greetings, this is regarding a SmartUPS 700 series. Sometimes I manually shut off the UPS after an extended power failure to avoid it powering itself off. Is there a way to have it automatically turn on after the AC returns? Or should I refrain from manually shutting the UPS down and let it turn itself off instead?
Thanks,
Andy

I'd point out that the NMC's "restart" control option on a SmartUPS 700 should turn the UPS off, and then back on when power returns.

this is the default setting for any UPS unless you manually turn it off.
are you using software or a network management card with this? you can change the settings in the software or management card to have the UPS shutoff earlier to preserve battery power and then turn back on later without you intervening manually.
if you dont have any software set up currently, we can change this setting via powerchute business edition agent pretty easily for free if you have the serial cable or USB cable available from APC.
how much load do you have on the UPS and how long do you want it to run for? how much is your total runtime? i'll need to know that for a recommendation on the best configuration setting change.

Thank you for your response. I guess my specific question is - Can I manually turn the UPS off and have it automatically come on when the AC returns?
I can throw a NMC in there to configure it or I can hook it up to a computer to configure the settings with a cable. Right now, it's just running things like switches and a modem, so it's not hooked directly to a PC with Powerchute.
I'm happy to see Powerchute Business for Linux!
Thanks again for the response, I wonder about that specific detail though.

if you manually turn the UPS off, it will require you to manually turn it back on unfortunately. only with software can you set it to shut down at a certain time and power back on when AC returns and you will interrupt that if you touch the front panel to turn it off.
