Amp display on switched rack PDU - error codes - what do they mean?

We have recently installed a couple of the vertical 3 phase, 24 port PDUs.

On many of them, the Amp display, for phase 2, does not show a number, but "E". Not "Er", just "E"

Looked around and cannot find a page on the apc web site where this is documented.

Also, on two of the PDUs, one or more of the phases displays an "L"

Any hint on what this means?

The only thing the display should show is "88" when its initializing or "Er" when there is a fault or something.

are you able to login and check the amperage readings via the web interface? it is possible that the display is inverted and you are actually seeing "3" and "7" or something indicating how many amps are being drawn from that phase.

Good Morning Angela,
I have a PDU that has been working fine for years, but it is now showing "88" on the display, and you cannot switch between phases to see the amperage. everything is still powered up, but that PDU has been showing "88" for several Hours now. I am concerned that it is about to Kack? what do you mean initializing?
Also do you know of somewhere on the site that I can find a Lexicon of Error Codes?
Thanks Andres

Hello Bill,

thanks for the reply, I will need to do some digging as the Bar is installed and the model number is on the back. I'm sure I could get it via a utility to log into the PDU with a console cable? but I don't think we have that. None the Less I can check old records and we have that info from Our inventory. Let me get back to you. Thanks for your interest and any assistance, you choose to offer.

Ok, Bill,

So, unfortunately, the PDU is in operation and attached to the rack so I cannot see the back of it where the Model number is located. I was able to find the inventory sheet and have the serial number for the PDU but no model number. Do you know if there is a Search Tool on the APC website that I could plug in the serial number and get that information?

Thanks

Hi Andres,

For any model PDU that uses that style display, showing "88" happens either when the display is initializing (after being first turned on), or if it is unable to load past the initial boot. If it continues to display "88" after a power cycle, then the only thing to try would be a firmware upgrade to rule out any communication issues. If it's still not working after that, then the device would need to be replaced.
