APC AP9210 Master Switch Rack Ears

This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/19/2015

I have an old  APC AP9210 and I wanted to mount it. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy rack ears that are compatible? I found one pair on ebay  but  it  seems they don't ship to my area.

There shouldn't be any issue powering the AP9210 from a UPS. The amount of power you can draw will be limited by the UPS, since it has a lower capacity than a regular wall outlet.

Hello,

I have one of the AP9210 or AP9211 available I think. I have to double check though. If so, I could ship them to you because if anything, they are not actively being used by anyone who needs them. I'll check tomorrow and post back.

Dang it! I just ordered the one on ebay for $20.. I guess the guy had an error in his shipping info.  I appreciate the gesture though.

One major caution is that the AP9210 has a number of major unresolved security issues, so neither the serial console port nor the network port should be accessible by any (potentially) untrusted people. This may or may not matter for your particular usage scenario.

The AP9210 uses an EPROM for firmware and is not easily upgradable (and is old enough that it didn't get a fix for the "10man issue"). I believe it is based on the AP9605. The AP9211 uses a SmartSlot NMC which I believe is the AP9606. Current units like the AP7900 are based on the AP9617 (some even newer units are based on the AP9630). The point being that you're looking at a device that is 3 or 4 generations and over 15 years old at this point.

Thanks for the warning and the info but I'm only using it in a home cisco lab network behind a firewall. I'm paralyzed  so it makes it easier for me to turn off equipment that I'm not using.

Since I have your attention and you seem very knowledgeable regarding apc equipment. ;Do you know if it would be theoretically safe to plug the ap9210 into a Back-UPS BR 800 for surge protection? Because as far as I understand  the ap9210 doesn't offer surge protection and living in Florida surge protection is a must.
