AP9630 no LEDs

We have a new AP9630 in a new SMX2200HV4U UPS. There are no LEDs lit on the AP9630. It has the APC serial cable connected, & a 100M LAN cable is connected (this LAN connection works when plugged instead into a computer). Ive held the reset button down for 20+secs and no flashing LED. Card says 640-1110A-Z_REV05, made 2008. Help! praying the NMC is good.

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

I agree, that doesn't look good for the AP9630. To clarify, you put that card into the older SmartUPS 2200XL correct? If you haven't, you can hotswap that card and there will be no issues for either the load/equipment or the UPS (see this link). If that's the case, I would assume the card needs to be replaced. I see your location says Fiji, and unfortunately, I'm not aware of their warranty/return policy but that card you have was manufactured in 2010 based on the serial number. Here in the US/Canada, it's 2 years from purchase date from an authorized reseller (not manufacture date).

Let me know if you need anything else, and I apologize for the issues you are having.

- Tommy

Hi Chris,

Do you have any other UPS's on site? If so, I would try to swap this card into another UPS to see if the issue lies with the smartslot (slot where the AP9630 slides into) on the UPS or the card itself. Conversely, if you have other AP9630's/AP9631's/AP9635's, you can try swapping those into this UPS with the same goal (either the card or the smartslot). If you find that other cards don't work in this UPS (meaning it makes more sense to be a smartslot issue), I would suggest brain deading the UPS (see this link).

If you can't isolate it at all, let's get some more info on your setup to see if anything else makes sense.

- Is this a new install or was previously working (I assume new install since you said it was new but figured I would clarify)? If so, any circumstances change?

- What's the serial number off the NMC?

- Is there any notable physical damage on the card? (capacitor fell off, etc.) You can post a picture of the card, and I'll compare against ones I have.

- Is the reset button still present? I've seen issues where someone in the past has broken it trying to reset the card.

- To clarify, you don't see any LED's blink at any time right?

Thanks,

Tommy

Tommy, hi, excellent to hear from you

- New install, ie first use of this new UPS & this new NMC 2.

- have not once seen any light from the Status & Link LEDs on this card

- 2 photos of the card, attached

- I have "brain-deaded" (not a word) the UPS, I do it when i replace the card, by 1. output off  2. unplug input  3. open front & pull connector off battery.   (we have just one NMC)

- UPS Manual shows that the last item in the Menu (advanced) - About -.. is the details of the NMC. Our last menu item is the one before, zero mention of the NMC.

- btw  card says "(Copyright symbol) 2008" not "made 2008"

- UPS has USB cable to a test Windows server, I'ved uninstalled the newly-installed PowerChute software after reading that Powerchute & the NMC would not be used together.

- serial cable to server: Putty serial no access ie no screen response to a prompt

- cleaned card edge connectors with CRC Contact Cleaner.

- numbers (bottom) Bangalore  AP9630  barcode ZA1052008995, (top) barcode 4626819900037907

- caps are secure. no sign of physical damage, incl under a magnifier

- reset button has distinctive muted soft momentary click feel when activated

- we have a production Smart-UPS2200XL, would have to arrange a big outage or hot-swop card. I was reading Forum responders are OK with hot-swop (cant find those post again in this moment), card has the two longer power edge connectors, are we OK? otherwise, we wait for an outage. That UPS is old & being replaced, it once had an NMC card that was presumed to have failed & was binned, maybe its smart-slot is nogo? Anyway, if ours does work in that, that's big news.

Thanks !

Chris

Did the outage, made the older UPS braindead, installed card and power all UP. No LEDs on card. Insert LAN cable, same. Reset, same.

Doesnt prove anything as we dont know if that smartslot is good or not.

btw, have the paper record of tests performed on the new UPS at build May 2016; both tests for smartslot show Pass. Doesnt mean slot is good now. otoh, doesnt look good for the NMC2.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Chris
