AP9620 Legacy Communications Card does not work on SMX3000

Hi,

We purchased "SMX3000RMLV2U" and "AP9620" Legacy Communications Card.

- We physically installed the AP9620 in to the Smart Slot of the SMX3000.

- We connected the battery cable of SMX3000

- We turned on the SMX3000 UPS.

- We haven't done any firmware update.

Problem:

STATUS LED of the AP9620 first flashing green as expected, then turns to flashing RED.

Do I need to perform some kind of software configuration or firmware update on SMX3000 UPS in order to work with AP9620? According to LCC Compatibility Matrix (below), Compatibility is fully supported on SMX3000.

I really appreciate any help.

Yes, it should work according to what I can find and of course per what the knowledge base says.

I suggest you contact your local support office via email or phone to obtain the upgrade file and procedure for LCC v2.2 to see if that resolves the issue. If you have trouble with that, let me know. It is possible a newer UPS firmware update has broken compatibility or communication with the LCC but I don't see that specifically listed as an issue anywhere and SMX3000 SKUs have been supported by LCC from the get go as documented.

Hi Angela, thanks for your reply,

I contacted APC. They sent me a file named "LCC_02.2.enc" with an instruction pdf contains firmware update procedure (LCC Firmware Update Instructions.pdf). I followed the procedure, unfortunately it didn't work. In fact, it looks worse now. Before the upgrade attempt, when i insert the LCC, the status led was flashing green after a minute it was turning to flashing red, after unsuccessful upgrade attempt, the status LED is always flashing red.

I' ve tried the procedure with hyper terminal and minicom (linux) on different laptops with the same result. Now, i can read messages from LCC ony if i connect with 19.200 baud. It stuck there. When I connect with 2.400 baud, strange symbols appear. Wheb I connect with 19.200 baud, i see CCCC characters.

I am stuck Angela any suggestions?

Thanks for helping.

When you see CCCC, it means the LCC is waiting for the file transfer and you need to send the file through your terminal program like hyperterminal or something else that supports XMODEM serial protocol. CCCC is good at least though.

You're sure you're specifying XMODEM and not ZMODEM or YMODEM protocol when you browse and send the LCC v2.2 .enc file? You need to make sure the file is being sent as soon as you see CC's and not wait until it gets towards the end where it may timeout before the transfer begins.

What you're seeing seems normal for steps 10, 11, and 12 in the PDF except for the fact that it seems v1.6 has been somehow erased from the card since it says no application in memory..

If you can validate what I ask, I'll need to check on this further.
