SCADA Integration of Distributed Substations via IEC61850
Originally published on Success Stories Corner by HMS-Networks | February 25, 2021 04:58 PM
A major international airport in Germany needed to upgrade its privately managed power grid. The grid has energy requirements equivalent to a city of 150,000 people, and is managed from a central location.
Customer challenges
• 6 substations distributed over 25 square kilometers
• Over 100 types of equipment with different protocols
• Availability and security both of critical importance
• Limited experience and knowledge of IEC 61850
The solution: HMS & EcoStruxure
The customer decided to use Ixxat SG-gateways with IEC 61850 connectivity from HMS Networks to establish connections among the equipment, as well as with the central monitoring room. The solution included:
• MiCOM Protection Relays in Modbus-RTU
• Third-party sensors, actuators, or Genset controllers
