M580 safety unrecoverable error when minor online edits (error codes %SW124 = 0xEC10)

Hello,

I have a program in Control Expert v16, in which when I do a minor online update (e.g. change the tag of the function block input) the PLC goes into unrecoverable error and crashes.

I attach below a video with the example.

The message displayed in CE is:
CSA has downloaded to PLC. Execution has failed.On-line modification error.

Monitoring the %SW124 online I have seen:

%SW124 = 0xEC10

and also 0xEC04.

Please let me know if you can help,

Thanks,

My solution was to revert back to ECE v15.1!

Hello @erik.cornelsen ,

I would suggest you to raise a case with your local country support for a proper investigation as it is related to a crash and apparently you can replicate it all the time.

When you open a case make sure to include your video and:

- CPU model
- CPU Firmware
- Diagnostic Files
- Application backup

Best Regards,

Gabriel Horta

Bom dia @gchorta, obrigado pelo suporte.

I already opened a case with the local support and send all the information you mentioned.
Unfortunately the problem still not solved and it will impact my team a lot during commissioning, because online edits it is a key function expected from the M580 Safe PAC.

Please let me know if you can help,

Kind regards,

Erik Cornelsen

Hello,

We quickly discovered this problem when we installed ControlExpert V16.

The problem was passed on to local support, who took charge of the international “level 3”.

Have you had any feedback since opening your post?

Thank you

Bruno

Some of my co workers using ECE 16.0 with M580 Safety have also reported this problem.  We too are waiting on a solution from tech support.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
The problem has also gone up, so we'll have to go back to V15 in the meantime.
Best regards

We can't go back to v15.3 due to serious defects in a number of the built in safety functions (S_MUTING_PAR for one).  We were forced to go to v16 where they have been fixed, only to find stability issues.

Please note that for safety only V15.1 SP1 is TUV certified.  We are expecting a release within the next few weeks of the next release of CE which is TUV certified.  This will also have a new firmware for the CPU to install.

It may not help but is also a worth a try.  If there is a corruption in the project sometimes it is worth exporting the project, closing the application and then importing the exported version and rebuilding it.
out of curiosity is CE running on WIN 11 or WIN 10?

In my case it was WIN 10 and it was not corruption in the project, because it also does with a brand new fresh project.
Is CE v15.3 TUV certified and what's the plan for the TUV certification of the v16?

It worth check if the CE v16 is TUV certified for the safety, it was still not when I first used it earlier this year.

Which other safety functions that you tested had issues?
Thanks

Hi @Trinxs1, TUV certification or not, it is impossible for us to use anything earlier than v16 due to the serious defects we discovered in the S_MUTING_PAR function which we need to use.  v16 also fixes three other safety functions that had problems which I had not discovered yet.  I found it quite alarming.  We had to make the call that we would have to commission with v16 on the promise that the TUV certification was coming soon.

The only one I uncovered myself was S_MUTING_PAR where I found a basic sequencing issue and a major deadlock issue.  Here are other safety function fixes in the release notes for v16 that are significant:

PEP0499448R  UP13.1 bug in FB S_MUTING_PAR  PLCCE-8

PEP0619623R  CE14.1 safety DFB S_EQUIVALENT fails on dead lock  PLCCE-151

PEP0664455R  CE V15.0 - the status word of S_EDM doesn't switch properly  PLCCE-3252

PEP1060720R  DFB - S_OUTCONTROL can go into deadlock state  PLCCE-4920

Tech support have shared ControlExpert_V160_HF001 which contains ControlExpert_V160_HF007, which hopefully addresses the crashing issue:

ControlExpert_V160_HF007 has been developed to address a specific issue concerning
“M580 CPU cessation of operation, EC10 and three red LEDs reported” in case actions
taken by this sequence:
a) On an application previously Rebuild All connected to a M580 CPU.
b) Create/open a section code and add several EFBs
c) Do a Build Changes
d) Remove one of them (not all) inside this section code, and remove also instance
inside Data Editor.
e) Do a Build Changes

A colleague found it is also downloadable from the SE website.  They found it here:

https://www.se.com/myschneider/catalogBrowse/nz/en/range/548#software-and-firmware

and search on:

ControlExpert_V160_HF001

I think you have to ignore the comments in the release notes about TUV for v16, which it does not have yet!

Hello,

I can confirm that the patch is now operational and solves the problem of the M5280S crashing when using personal DFB blocks.
Thanks to the SE team for their responsiveness

Please note that V16.0 HF001 is certified by TUV for use in safety systems.  If you wish to view the certificate please refer to the link FS-PRODUCTS (tuvasi.com).
