M340 SD Card necessity

Is the SD card absolutely necessary for the functioning of the M340 system? When I removed the SD card, the control expert would not let me upload/download to the PLC. Does this mean that the program stored on the SD card and there is no built-in flash memory? Can I somehow get the PLC system running code without using an SD card? If so how?

The SD card is compulsory for all M340 CPUs.  There is no work around.  The CPU is provided with an 8MB memory card, which stores the applications and the web page information.  This is applicable to all M340 CPUs and the BMXPRA0100 module.  A128MB memory card can be used on all CPUs to store data, applications and web page information as well as store files via FTP.
