Factory Reset / Clear Program on M340 (BMXP342020) without Password

Hi everyone,

I am currently working with a Schneider Modicon M340 PLC (BMXP342020), but I have lost the program password and cannot access the existing application.

Is there any way to perform a factory reset or initialize the PLC to completely clear the existing program without knowing the password?

My goal is to remove the old application and download a new program into the PLC.

Any guidance or recommended procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @tuanplm

To my knowledge there is now way to reset/clear the password on the M340 without knowing the current password.

i would suggest you reach out to Schnedier Electric Technical Support Centre as they will have to issue you a temporary code.

To regain access to CPU follow the process outlined in pages 197 to 199 in the following manual .33003101_K01_000_24.pdf.

Procedure for resetting the application password:

  1. Connect to the CPU.  When the enter password box displays on the screen.
  2. Press SHIFT+F2.
  3. The Password forgotten pop-up window is open, and a string of alphanumeric characters is displayed.
  4. Copy this string and send it via your local Schneider Contact to be sent to the Schneider Electric global support.
  5. The response may take up to 24 hours depending on your location in the world and how long it takes to process the request by the local country.  Receive the generated password from Schneider Electric global support.
NOTE:  The generated password is a temporary password, available as long as you do not modify the
    application.
  6. Enter this password when you try to re connect with the PLC.
  7. Modify the existing password (old password = password provided by Schneider Electric support), to a new password you intend to use for future access.
  8. Click Build > Build Changes.
  9. Save the application.

A hint:  After setting the new password, place a hint or the contact details of someone who maintains the password in the comments section of the CPU properties section.  This is visible when you select open program and then navigate to the stored project.  Click once on the project name and the version of the project and the comments will be displayed.  Do not put the password in the comments section of a project that is in production as this will compromise Cyber security.

Try searching for the EcoStruxure™ Control Expert - Operating Modes manual.  This will contain the details I explained in the message above.

An untried method try powering down, moving the module to slot 1 powering it up and connect to it with the USB programming cable.  See if you can download a basic configuration.
