Unable to edit register - ION Setup

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re doing well.

I’d like to ask for some help with an issue a customer is experiencing. They have a system with several ION7400 and ION7330 meters, and we need to adjust the depth of the Energy and Demand data recorders on all of them using ION Setup. The problem is that, on some meters, a dialog box appears saying “Unable to edit the register.”

Has anyone experienced this before, or does anyone know what might be causing it?

Hi @Veronika.Salinas 

The “Unable to edit the register” message usually means if the meter is hardware locked, then no one even with appropriate credentials with all access, can make changes to those revenue modules such as Energy and Demand Data Recorder module.

If meter is not hardware locked, then make sure the user has appropriate access level.

Is is also possible due to Memory Allocation Limit, as meters have a finite amount of internal flash memory. If you are trying to increase the depth of the Energy log, the meter must "claim" that memory from the total pool. If the meter is already at 100% memory utilization across all its data recorders(which is rarely happens), it will return an error because there is no "free space" to expand into.
