Regarding the PM5560 firmware update (ver 2.5.x ⇒ ver 4.0.x)

Hello,

Regarding the PM5560 firmware update (ver 2.5.x ⇒ ver 4.0.x),

please tell me about the update process.
I believe this would be an update using the firmware upgrade tool; in this case,

is it necessary to enable FTP?
Also, in the ver. 2.x.x firmware, is the initial (default) setting for FTP Enabled or Disabled?

Regard,
Okada

Hi @T.Okada In the user manuals, we have mentioned the pre-requisites for each of the applicable firmware upgrade methods based on firmware versions.

Hi @T.Okada

As documented in PM5500 user guide, use the Firmware Upgrade Tool method for PM5560 from 2.5.x to 4.0.x:

Mehran_Mehrnia_1-1770667846736.png

FTP is required and must be enabled only when using the FTP‑server upgrade method. However, in the document 'Firmware upgrade user manual snippet.pdf' included in the latest firmware package, the section “Meter upgrade requirements for firmware upgrade tool” notes a special case that applies only to the PM5561 model. In that case, if the FTP server is disabled, it must be enabled through the meter display. This exception does not apply to the PM5560.

"Also, in the ver. 2.x.x firmware, is the initial (default) setting for FTP Enabled or Disabled?"

As stated in the PM5500 user guide, for older firmware versions, when FTP is enabled it automatically reverts to the default state (Disabled) after 20 minutes of inactivity, after each power‑on, and after every firmware upgrade. However, beginning with firmware version 4.0.0 and later, FTP remains enabled once activated on PM5560, PM5562, PM5562MC, PM5563, and PM5580 models.

Hello @Mehran_Mehrnia

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I understand that I don’t need to enable the FTP setting when upgrading the PM5560 using the Firmware Upgrade Tool (from ver. 2.5.x to ver. 4.0.x).

I have one more question: do I need to enable the FTPS setting when upgrading the PM5560 using the Firmware Upgrade Tool (from ver. 4.0.x to ver. 4.x.x)?

Based on my testing, my understanding was that enabling FTPS is required when upgrading the PM5560 using the Firmware Upgrade Tool (from ver. 4.0.x to ver. 4.x.x).

Regards,
Okada

Hi @T.Okada,

I tested the upgrade from a 4.x.x version to another 4.x.x version with FTPS disabled. After clicking the Upload FW button, the tool automatically enabled FTPS on the meter.

After:

Please also note that you can upgrade directly from the meter’s webpages, which is easier if you are only working with a limited number of meters.

Regards,

JD
