The ION9000 meter operates in the IEC61850 protocol, and that's clear. And now we have an optical IEC61850 loop (HSR) composed of SIEMENS protection relays from the SIPROTEC 5 family. We need to add our four ION9000s to this loop. How do we solve this? My thinking is this: If the ION9000s support the HSR architecture, they can be connected to the existing loop along with the SIPROTECs! We then need to use opto/twisted-pair converters in the IEC61850 loop. Is this connection acceptable? Has anyone else experienced this problem? If not, we will need to use a REDBOX (HSR/PRP converter), which will connect the ION9000s and allow them to be connected to the existing IEC61850 loop with the SIPRPTEC.

The ION9000 meters support IEC61850 MMS. The meter could be connected to RedBox (Redundancy Box) such that single-attached traffic (SAN) is directed to the meter. This can still use IEC61850, and does not have to use Modbus.
I myself do not have any experience with such a setup.

The ION9000 does not support HSR/PRP. The meter does support Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, RSTP however I believe PRP is different protocol.
As for options, I cannot give any suggestions but hopefully someone else can give their experience.

So , it is not possible to use the ION9000 in the final version of IEC61850 (HSR) or in an IEC61850 radial network (PRP)? Did someone has an expirience of such connections ???
How do I connect four ION9000 meters (i.e., MODBUS TCP/IP) to the IEC61850 optical level? Does anyone have any ideas? Perhaps as follows?
1) Connect four ION9000 meters using an Ethernet device.
2) Convert MODBUS TCP/IP to IEC61850 using a network gateway.
3) Connect to the IEC61850 fiber optic port using a REDBOX device (HSR/PRP converter).
OR MAYBE
In the ION 9000 TECHNICAL MANUAL, in the "Protocols, Ports, and Connections" section, we can read that the ION9000 supports the IEC61850 standard.
So, after adding a REDBOX (HSR to PRP converter), I should connect the ION group to the existing SIPROTEC 5 fiber optic ring from SIEMENS.
Does anyone have experience with such connections?
