I have seven ION6200RMD, they are daisy chained using RS485 Modbus protocol to a PM 8500, I used to be able to read all 6200 using PM 8500 as the gateway until I had to replace the PM8500, since the replacement I have not been able to receive data from ION 6200 while I can see the PM 8500 data. PM 8500 is used as a gateway using IP and Modbus RTU setup and each ION as Modbus RTU device. I have checked all com ports setting and they all seem to be okay. I tried connecting 485 wires to a different 485 Modbus compatible device but was not successful in seeing any data from ION 6200. I have also reset the 6200 but still unable to see the data. Anyone has any recommendation as how I should trouble shoot it.

Hello @hjain ,

I would start with a known good RS-485 converter that can work on a laptop, example RS-485 to USB.

1) Disconnect one ION6200 meter and connect to the converter.

2) Run a modbus client that can use the converter to send modbus connected to the meter.

3) Confirm that meter is able to respond to modbus. If not, will need to troubleshoot with the single meter and directly connected. Could be DeviceID, protocol on meter, baud rate etc. Hard to give exact recommendations over a forum.

4) Once you have 1 meter working correctly, attach a second meter. Confirm that you can talk to both meters. If no communication will need to troubleshoot. Trying to isolate where the problem could be, perhaps try a different meter. If one meter is behaving badly it could affect all meters on the line.

5) Repeat adding meters one at a time to try and isolate where issue lies.

6) Once you have confirmed that all ION6200 meters are working, connect back to the ION8500 meter.

Note that ION8500 meters and ION6200 meters have been obsolete for a while now. There is limited tehcnical support available for these meters.
