Python API - Experimenting with Multiple System Management using MQTT

We have released a YouTube video describing how to use MQTT, Sparkplug and Python to integrate multiple Geo SCADA systems. This video is located here:

The video refers to configuration and Python programs which are included in a .zip file bundle on this KB page below.

 

The samples demonstrate how to:

 

  • Set up Geo SCADA Sparkplug Publisher and Client to replicate data and configuration from a Site to a Central system.
  • Synchronize alarm acknowledgement at a Site system with the Central system, and if desired vice-versa.
  • Automate the transfer of mimics and trends configured at the Site system with the Central system, so that the Central system has replicated data, configuration, alarms and displays.

To complete the demonstration use these preparatory steps:

 

  • Prepare two Geo SCADA systems, named Central and Site 1
  • Import the Example Database into each
  • Delete the 'Example Projects' folder from Central
  • Rename the 'Example Projects' folder in Site 1 to 'Site 1'
  • Set up an MQTT Broker (e.g. Mosquitto) on a server, and change the references in the Central and Site MQTT Brokers to link to it. Also modify the Python programs to link to it too. 

 

The files in the .zip assume you have a Central database and a separate Site database. They are as follows:

  • Auto Create Device Points.sde - No need to import, already in Central - MQTT.
  • Auto Create Node Points and Devices.sde - No need to import, already in Central - MQTT.
  • Central - Alarm Handling.sde - Import into the root group of Central.
  • Central - Config Transfer.sde - Import into the root group of Central.
  • Central - Event Subscription.sde - Import into the root group of Central.
  • Central - MQTT.sde - Import into the root group of Central.
  • Central - Site 1 - (empty).sde - Import into the root group of Central.
  • CentralPropTrans.txt - Already in Central - MQTT.
  • Link Points to Pub.sde - Import into a Python group in Site. Run this after importing Site - MQTT.sde to add Sparkplug Publisher links to the historic points in Site.
  • Site - Alarm Handling.sde - Import into the root group of Site.
  • Site - Config Transfer.sde - Import into the root group of Site. Run the Python manually to 'send' mimics and trends to Central.
  • Site - MQTT.sde - Import into the root group of Site.
  • SitePropTrans.txt - Already in Site - MQTT, but you may wish to add your own source protocol table types into this file and re-import this Property Translation Table into the Site Property Translation Table object.
