Busbar and external communication panels modeling

I would like to hear your opinion.

What is the best practice to model Busbar power connection?

And the second question: how you model external patch panels placed above racks or under the raised floor?

Hello Valentin.

I have seen customers who have copied the genome entry for a floor pdu and changed its physical properties to make it appear in DCO as a long/slim PDU. This item has to sit on the floor, but it allows them to properly model the power path with a series of connections to rack pdu's and other devices, and it allows them to track capacity and measured load (if its available).

If you send us the name of your customer (privately, please do not post in this community posting) we can add the customer to a feature request for busbar modeling.

and it’s same for patch panels.  We’ve made them very small so they’re not to intrusive in 3D model.  Pls add your customer to feature request for both

I've propose slightly different solution - create PDU and add to it several power panels each of them will represent corresponding part of busbar.

As for patch panels. In my understanding, there is no standalone object in DCO which can represent external patch panel. We need a rack with installed patch panel in order to have proper network port calculations. And if we will model patch panels it this way, it will dramatically reflects on licenses count. 🙂

I did this with DCO 8.1.0.

In Genomes for your patch panel/s, adjust the  Mounting Properties and add "Top" to Front, Rear etc..  Add the patch  panel to the rack and make your connections using what ever method you like.  Right click the patch panel and select "Mounting" and change it to "Top".

Once the panel is top mounted, it won't appear in the Rack View Show Network and I can't see a way to use the graphical Connection Tool but you'll see connections going "out of rack"

You can still connect using "old" methods or change panel mounting to "Front", adjust your connections then mount again on top.

Not great but at least it works.  It might be suitable for you if you have a high churn of connections to manage.  I didn't test loading connections to top mounted panels via Excel asset load sheet or ETL import.
