ITA - export/import equipment between 2 seperated sites

Hello expert,

Would like to have your help to check if possible:

Customer need to move batch of equipment from a site to another site.  These 2 sites using independent ITA softwares.

Since equipment contains many customer properties created by customer (i.e. date of deploy, date of maintenance, contract number...)

So, they don't want to create equipment from scratch in destination site.

  • Customer question: is there a way to do import/export  like to export equipment property in a excel or whatever format, then carry it out to equipment in destination and do the import.
Br,
Ninh

Hello Ninh

There is no official tool/method for moving assets from one room to another. Most customers manually move asset information manually themselves, or use services from Schneider to replicate the information manually.

As an alternative, ITA does has an asset import tool which uses an excel xls sheet template file for importing asset information. I have heard of some customers exporting data from their desktop client equipment browser, reformating the data from the equipment browser to fit the template file and then using the template file to import data to their alternate ITA server.

Formatting data to fit the import template can also take some work, so a customer would need to consider whether manually moving the assets is faster than adapting the equipment browser export to the import template format.

I have pasted two links to youtube videos below. The first video shows how to enable the xls import tool for inventory import to ITA (the tool is disabled by default as its typically used by Schneider services teams). The second video link shows a brief example how to use the import tool from the desktop client.

How to enable the import tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BM9B60TkGo

How to use the import tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPEqCTEKzXc

If you are trying the import tool and you're importing racks, the import tool is not aware of floor locations so you may need to move racks to their proper floor space. Its easier if you place rows on the room floor then use the import tool to add the rack to the row ... then at least the rack is in the approximate area it belongs. The import tool also supports importing just racked assets (if racks exist already in the new location).

NOTE: The import tool is meant for adding assets to ITA, its not an "update" tool to be used to update existing assets. If the import tool finds an existing matching asset in the import sheet, the existing ITA asset is deleted and replaced by the asset in the import sheet.

Regards

Greg Sterling
