Configuring Email Notifications in StruxureWare Data Center Expert for Discovered PDUs
When I set up the email notification, I start getting continuous messages "Detected an unauthorized user attempting to access the SNMPv3 interface from -ip address-". Am I missing something in the setup.
This email alert is coming directly from the NMC card email configuration. Data Center Expert does not send out these sort of alerts, only alerts that are active for a period of time on the NMC. Alarms that immediately clear would be sent from the NMC itself.
If the IP address listed within the alert is Data Center Expert's IP address, then you will need to ensure that the communication settings in DCE match what is set on the device for SNMPv3 user access controls: DCE Desktop Client > Device menu > SNMP Device Communication Settings > Device SCAN settings > Check box for the specific device > Device Scan Settings. As long as those match what is set on the device you should not be receiving the SNMP unauthorized access emails from the NMC directly for scan attempts.
If the IP address is not Data Center Expert's, you'll need to investigate to see what system is attempting to access the SNMPv3 interface of the NMC directly and then take appropriate action.
These scan messages are often seen from security scanners attempting to scan devices, but you will need to investigate to determine that.
