Re: Is real time possible with IEC 61499?

Our measurements with EcoStruxure Automation Expert show that event-driven systems are extremely efficient in terms of resource use, more so than scan-based systems. We are currently running field tests with industrial customers for different applications. Please contact your Schneider Electric Representative to learn more.

Re: Is real time possible with IEC 61499?

There is a possibility to enable Real-time in IEC61499 using  E_CYCLE Function Block, which can be used as the clock generator.

A more aRe: Is real time possible with IEC 61499?

The term "real-time" is confused here with cyclic I think.

A more accurate description would be that E_CYCLE allows you to do classic cyclic control, which is not the intent off course.

However, don't forget cyclic control will always be required.

For time-related computation, such as PID-control or accumulators you will need E_CYCLE even - or I should say especially - when nothing changes / no event occur.
