Product Line
EcoStruxure Building Operation
Environment
- Building Operation WorkStation with WorkPlace Tech Editor
- Microsoft Visio 2013, 2016, or 2019
Cause
The installed version of Microsoft Visio is either:
- Corrupted
- Not activated or licensed correctly
- Missing required security upgrades
- A mismatched architecture relative to WPTE (for example, 64‑bit Office components installed alongside 32‑bit Visio)
Tools such as Smartware Studio 360/Design 360 may install a 64‑bit Microsoft Access runtime, leading to ribbon failures or removal of Office applications during repair.
Resolution
Follow the procedure below to repair Visio and ensure compatibility with WorkPlace Tech Editor:
-
Verify Visio Compatibility
Check the EcoStruxure Building Operation release notes to confirm that your version of WPTE supports the installed version of Microsoft Visio. -
Confirm Licensing and Activation
Ensure Microsoft Visio is fully licensed and activated. WPTE may not work if Visio is running with a temporary or unlicensed activation state. -
Install Required Security Updates
Apply all pending Microsoft Office/Visio security updates. -
Perform an Online Repair
Perform an Online Repair (not Quick Repair) on both:- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Visio
This is done via Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Microsoft Office/Visio → Modify → Online Repair.
-
Check for Mixed 32-bit/64-bit Office Components
Ensure that no 64‑bit Microsoft Office components are installed if WPTE is using 32‑bit Visio.- Smartware products may install a 64‑bit Microsoft Access DB component.
- This can break the WPTE fluent ribbon or cause Office products to be removed during repair. Refer to WorkPlace Tech Editor Ribbon Fails to Load When Launching WorkStation or WorkPlace Tech
