Issue
What constraints must be followed when naming objects in StruxureWare Building Operation?
Product Line
EcoStruxure Building Operation
Environment
- Building Operation Workstation
- Object naming
- Illegal characters
Cause
Using incorrect object names can may cause unpredictable results in SmartStruxure.
Resolution
Refer to WebHelp article #6429
All objects in the StruxureWare database have to have a name. StruxureWare is case-sensitive and differentiates between upper and lowercase characters.
Two objects cannot be named in the same way in the same folder even if the objects are of different types. For example, you cannot create an alarm named Building A and a graphic named Building A in the same folder. However, if you name the graphic Building a, with a lowercase a, you can create it in the same folder as the alarm object Building A.
The following characters are not allowed in object names in StruxureWare Building Operation.
- /
- "
- ?
- *
- ~
- &
- White space is not allowed in the beginning or the end of an objects name.
- . (period) is not allowed in the beginning of an objects name.
- There is no limitation of how many characters an object name can have.
NOTE: If an apostrophe (') is used in the Enterprise Server name, Webstation will have some issues with page links. Page links do not work in Webstation but work in Workstation has more information about this issue.
