Resolution
⚠️ Critical Warning
Do not allow Visio or WorkPlace Tech to convert or update the application if prompted.
Selecting "Yes" may permanently modify the file and prevent correct identification or migration.
1. Open the Application in Visio
Visio is sufficient; WorkPlace Tech does not need to be installed.
2. Access the ShapeSheet
- Hold down the left Shift key.
- While still holding Shift, right‑click the background.
- Select Show ShapeSheet, keeping Shift held until the ShapeSheet opens.
- If the ShapeSheet header does not show the file name followed by

Locate User-defined Cells.
Look for: User.wptVersion
4. Interpret Results

User.wptVersion is present
The application was created/edited with WPT 3.2sp1 or newer and can be converted safely. -
User.wptVersion or the entire User-defined Cells section is missing
The application was created with WPT earlier than 3.2sp1 and must not be converted.
5. Close Without Saving
When exiting Visio, select No when asked to save.

To enable the Developer tab:
File → Options → Customize Ribbon → enable Developer
To open the ShapeSheet manually:
Developer → Shape Design → Show ShapeSheet (Shape, Page, or Document)
