Cause
When an Automation Server is detached from an Enterprise Server, Enterprise Server-to-Automation Server bindings and references are removed. This is expected behavior because those bindings depend on the relationship between the Enterprise Server and the Automation Server.
If the Automation Server is subsequently attached to an Enterprise Server with an identical structure, some bindings may reconnect automatically. However, automatic reconnection is not guaranteed and should always be validated after migration.
Resolution
When an Automation Server is detached from an Enterprise Server, any Enterprise Server-to-Automation Server bindings and references are removed. This is expected behavior because these bindings depend on the relationship and object hierarchy between the Enterprise Server and the Automation Server.
After the Automation Server is attached to a different Enterprise Server, any required Enterprise Server-to-Automation Server bindings must be validated and recreated as necessary. There is no option to preserve these bindings during the detach process.
If the destination Enterprise Server contains an identical binding structure, some bindings may reconnect automatically. However, this behavior should be validated after migration and should not be relied upon as part of the migration strategy. If the destination Enterprise Server has a different structure, bindings may be unable to resolve and recreation will be required.
To reduce recreation effort before migration:
- Export binding information where possible.
- Create binding templates.
- Use Find and Replace to update bindings where appropriate.
- Use Bindings Diagnostics before and after migration to identify unresolved or invalid references.
Where Automation Servers communicate with other Automation Servers, validate all cross-server references after the migration and recreate any references that are no longer valid.
