ESMI fire panel ignores configured delay for PA activation

Issue

Public Address (PA) system activates immediately after a fire alarm event, even though a delay (for example, 2 minutes) is configured on the Fire Alarm System (FAS) panel.

Product Line

ESMI Fire Detection.

Environment

  • FFS00703910xx (Esmi Sense FDP221)
  • FFS00703920xx (Esmi Sense FDP252)
  • FFS00703930xx (Esmi Sense FDP292)

Cause

The delay time was defined in the system configuration, but the delay functionality was not operating as expected.
Investigation showed that the delay logic was not executed because the required hardware enablement was missing on the panel clean contact input (IN1 or IN2).

As a result, activation logic involving multiple detectors or manual call points (MCPs) did not apply the configured delay.

Resolution

Enable the delay functionality through both configuration and hardware settings, based on site requirements.

Configuration steps

  1. Log in to Fire Expert software.
  2. Select the required site and click Manage.

  3. Click Edit in the configuration section.

  4. Select the panel from the left pane and open the Delays tab.
  5. Enable Enable delay alarm outputs.

  6. Configure the required delay time in T1 and the action time in T2.
  7. Navigate to Fire Alarm Devices and Fire Control Outputs:

    • Set Alarm mode to Delayed Output for input devices (detectors, input modules).

    • Select Delayed Fire Alarm Output for output devices (sounders, relay outputs).

Panel hardware enablement

If using IN1 or IN2 for delay enablement:

  1. Install a jumper wire on the selected input (IN1 or IN2).
  2. In the panel configuration, select MCU from the left pane.
  3. Under Clean Contact Inputs, configure the input as follows:
    • Function: Delayed Alarm Enable Input
    • Contact: Normally Open
    • Monitored: Not Monitored

Apply changes

  • Download the updated configuration.
  • Transfer the configuration to the panel using a USB drive to activate the revised settings.
