Unit turns on, gives green light for 5-10 seconds, and then craps out.

I have a BACK-UPS ES 500. This issue does not seem to be addressed in the troubleshooting section of the manual.

I plug in the unit, I get the one short beep and the green light just turns on for 5-10 seconds. With no devices plugged in, the unit's green LCD just turns off and the unit sounds an incessant siren (I would not call it beeps because there are no pauses in the sound, nor does the sound change).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The unit has been installed for a while and without incident until just recently.

The exact model number and first six of the serial are: BE500U & JB0233
