UPS battery replacement notification

Hello, we just registered our UPS that hasn't been monitored for years now to our new account and we got a notification stating it's been needing a battery replacement since 2023. Is that notification automatic after a certain number of years or is it being sent when the battery is losing it's power.

Is there a way to know if the battery actually needs to be replaced?

The RBC replacement notification from APC Smart Connect is simply based on a rolling decrement counter which has no real world application.

The RBC is rated to provide 2-5 years of service life based on usage, temperature, and environmental conditions. The internal cells are designed to sustain 260 cycles based on the same caveats listed up above.

If we assume everything to be equal in terms of production date and installed in January 01, 2023 then the RBC is three years old. Which is near the middle age of the RBC and would still provide sufficient operational runtime based on the APC Online Runtime Calculator for a specific load (watts).

If this is mission critical then it makes sense to replace the RBC.

If this is not mission critical and you don’t have to meet any standards than you can simply perform a self test and battery calibration to gauge the *Current State of Health* and compare the operational runtime with the APC Runtime Calculator to see if it’s acceptable.

The RBC should always be considered a maintenance and consumable that requires finances to be set aside.
